The Garland of St. Anthony Novena

This 9-day novena was taken from an old prayer book of my late mother called, The Treasury of St. Anthony. It contains all the favorite prayers and devotions so often prayed with much success by the countless devotees of the Great Paduan Saint. This small brown hard bound prayer book was signed and dated by my mother June 22, 1955. I will try to reproduce some of these prayers and devotions in its original text. Please note that some words are in old English form.

June 4, The start of the 9-day novena to St. Anthony of Padua

Prayer to St. Anthony of Padua, The Wonder-Worker

In any need

Saint Anthony, glorious for your miracles and for the Condescension of Jesus in coming as a little child to repose in your arms,
obtrain for me from his bounty the grace which I ardently desire.

You were so compassionate towards sinners,
regard not my unworthiness, but the glory of God,
that it may be magnified by you in connection with the particular request which I now earnestly present to you
(Name your request)

As a pledge of my gratitude,
I beg you to accept my promise to live more faithfully in accordance with the teachings of the church,
and to be devoted to the service of the poor whom you ever loved and still love so greatly.
Bless this resolution, that I may be faithful to it even until death.

Saint Anthony, consoler of all afflicted, pray for me.

Saint Anthony, helper of all who invoke you, pray for me.

Saint Anthony, whom the Infant Jesus so much loved, pray for me.

June 3 is the Feast day of St. Charles Lwanga and Companions, martyrs

The first black martyrs of UGANDA in Africa, St. Charles Lwanga, chief of the royal pages, and his  21 companions, died in a fierce persecution of the church in 1886. They were canonized saints by Pope Paul VI in 1964. They are venerated as the protomartyrs of Uganda. The white fathers arrived in the country in 1879 and the evangelization had very good results under King Mtesa. When King Mwanga assumed power in 1885, he was determined to get rid of Christianity for the reason that he was a homosexual and christian boys refused to render such depraved services. The persecution lasted for three years. Charles Lwanga, the chief of the royal servants,  and 21 of his young companions were among the victims of  persecution. When they were asked if they intend to remain Christians, they answered in one voice: TILL DEATH!

The martyrs of Uganda all died calling on the name of Jesus. Again, the words of Tertullian came true - the blood of the martyrs is the seed of Christians. Within the year of their death, the number of Christians among the Baganda rose from two hundred to over five hundred and the catechuments from eight hundreds to three thousand.

Let us be truly Catholics or "universal" in out look and pray for Christ's church in every corner of the Globe.

June 2, is the feast day of Sts. Marcellinus and Peter, martyrs

St. Marcellinus, a priest, and St. Peter, an exorcist, were decapitated in the forest during the persecutions under Diocletian. They were martyred around 304 and 305. The family of Constantine built a large basilica in their honor, where his mother St. Helen was buried.

Prayer to St. Expeditus

Aside from being the Patron Saint of the Republic of Molossia, He is also the advocate of urgent cases, whose feast day falls on April 19. He is traditionally depicted as a Roman soldier holding a palm leaf on the left hand and raising a cross on the right hand with the word HODIE, which means TODAY and his right foot is stepping on a raven "speaking" the word CRAS, which means TOMORROW.

In New Orleans, he is known as a LOA, voodoo "saint" invoked for speedy solutions. Also, He is somewhat  of a cult figure on the Island of Reunion in the Indian Ocean, where blood-red shrines are common in the countryside.

                                                          A Relic of St. Expiditus

St. Expiditus is also the Patron Saint of Businessman. So if you have a business St. Expiditus may help you.
FROM the book; A purely personal book of Miracles by Josephine Clemente Darang, she wrote, There's a little prayer asking the Saint to help in obtaining money. In return, one must give alms to an old beggar or a poor child or a pregnant woman..

Prayer to St. Expiditus

"I ask you, St. Expiditus, to aid me in my financial difficulties. Let your strength and support protect my income and help me obtain enough money so that I will not suffer need and want. Please let peace and enjoyment reign my household. I ask you and pray that my wishes be granted and glorify your intercession, Amen"

Every day, the following prayers may be said, so that the petitioner will never be in need: "I trust you, St. Expiditus, to place your good hand upon everything I need."

June 1, Feast day of Saint justin, Martyr

I have very very Little knowledge of who St. Justin , martyr is but here is what I've got  from the internet.

St Justin was a pagan philosopher at first. Not satisfied with the pagan philosophy, he studied the teachings of Jesus Christ and later, became a Christian. He then went to Rome a opened a school that teaches the Christian philosophy. He died a martyr under Emperor Marcus Aurelius in 165 AD.
