Blessed Pedro Calungsod was born in Cebu in the 17th century. He was a catechist. He read, write and speak Bisaya, Spanish and even Chamorro. his mentor, Father Diego Sanvictores, brought him to Saipan. Both were martyred for refusing to renounce their faith.
His body was thrown into the sea. A shrine was built in his honor along the seashore. He was beatified on March 5, 2005, a three-feet statue was brought to Guam Cathedral by Cardinal Vidal immediately after his beatification.
There are reports swirling that Blessed Pedro Calungsod's canonization has just been approved and that a date for the canonization is about to be set.
Almighty Father,
You gave young Pedro Calungsod to faithfully live
and proclaim the Gospel up to the point of shedding his blood.
By his example and prayers,
may we also give witness to our christian faith
even in the face of dangers and difficulties.
We ask this through our Lord,
Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you
and the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever.
